Berlin based label Expolited has been rising in prominence over the last few years. With huge releases from the likes of Claptone, Adana Twins and Joyce Munizto name just a few, the label has been helping to push the sound of house music in new directions.

This new year has seen the creation of their new sister label, Exploited Ghetto. With the mission plan aiming to compliment the main label by putting out one-off releases from newcomers and the extended Exploited family. With that in mind lets just say, keep your eye on Exploited Ghetto.

The first outing comes in the shape of a tasty little two-track offering from Italian House producer Mennie. Following some solid releases on Roush and Noir Music this probably stands out as his best work yet.

Title track ‘Phoenix’ is an infectiously danceable mid tempo House track. The funky drum work seems somehow fitting to be put out under the Ghetto banner, this track is steepedin groove. The subtle bass line and muffled vocal samples compliment the relaxed but confident feel of the record.

The second track ‘Murmur’ sounds slightly crisper. The sweeping synth work continues the summery feel of ‘Phoenix’, but Mennie flips the mood half way, spinning it into a track that is going to get the dance floor moving. ‘Murmur’ is understated in the best possible way.

The percussion work drives this EP, a style befitting of the Exploited name. As mentioned, Mennieundeniably exhibits a sound that is maturing. This stands out as a quality release to christen the new label and to start of the year. Start as you mean to go on. Exploited Ghetto could be one of the most exciting labels of 2015.
