Review: Jacques Greene - After Life, After Party EP

An absolutely fabulous release emerges from the hands of Jacques Greene. Entitled, ‘After Life, After Party’ on LuckyMe Records

It’s a brief but always beautiful encapsulation of both moods, both moments when one feels transcended into ethereal realms of goodness by sounds only post-party sensations could take us to.

Opening tune, ‘1 4 Me’, is a compilation of various sounds, textures and atmospheres never stuck into one place, always jolting and jerking into twisted shapes of stunning mania. A goddess sings a simple vocal above melodic keyboard sections that glide and glitter swaying silent to a tune fully aware of how fragile humans can be. The drums are broken but bubble with great intimacy, the bass is delicate but pounds with a fearless force; light eventually shines through, no matter how dark the spaces we dance in might be originally.

Only sweetness follows, ‘After Life, After Party Suicideyear RMX’ offers a euphoric oscillation of synth smiles turn like noisy little dials on a machine of flashing lights, gentle whispers of noise fly in the background, drums sparkle and shine; the bass only occasionally bounces into action carrying the collective parts to safety in a way that can only be called saintly. It’s one built for the brain trapped inside the headphones, late at night as the melody repeats on a cycle more powerful that what drugs can induce or love can do as it’s technological magic becomes human upon the first , second, third etc listen. It’s a wonderful piece of music to listen to; never too much simply allowing the melody to overtake and take us to wherever the mix is king for evermore.
