Mørbeck/Moerbeck has created a timeless slab of grinding techno that will delight long time fans of the genre whilst probably winning over a few non believers as well. M_Rec’s concept is simple and pure…the objective is to let people hear the sound of techno in all its shades.
The press release from M_Rec LTD explains how passionate they are about this music and that definitely comes through on this release. With a back catalogue of uncompromising and very pure sounding techno, you are not going to find cheesy remixes or pop music on this label.
This release by the Berlin resident features four tracks of dark, intense techno with an industrial edge. Music like this will stand the test of time because it doesn't follow trends or copy styles from other genres. This is proper techno that makes no apologies and no attempt to dilute the pneumatic, relentless energy that defines this music so strongly.
The opening track "Pyramide" is a heavy, hypnotic arrangement of metallic sounds and twisted soundscapes that swirl around the relentless, pounding kick drum. Of the three tracks on the E.P, this is the hardest by a long way.
The next track "Arrival Of A Stranger" is a spiky, minimal piece of experimental weirdness with a looping, acid lead that mutates and develops as layers of percussion gradually build up around the understated but solid kick drum. The final track, “Geometrix “takes a similar, minimal approach but the haunting, horror film chords give this track a genuinely unsettling vibe that fans of this sound will adore.
With the inexplicable popularity of EDM in recent years, it's genuinely refreshing to know that there are still people out there who are making music they love, regardless of what seems to be trendy or popular. Techno has always been the black sheep of the family in four to the floor dance music, but if being pushed underground makes producers write music like this, that arrangement suits me just fine.
