Romanian label Tzinah Records is the home for this latest release from mystery producer Silat Beksi.
With a string of EPs on other labels, this 2 track EP, with 2 remixes, is certainly a great effort. The title track Treat is an ethereal trip complete with reverb heavy spacey samples and a skittering drum pattern. It’s a solid track, which whilst it isn’t exactly going to blow your socks off, would be an effective DJ tool to build a set. On the remix duties for Treat is Deltano. This edit is a much subtler version, taking the track a whole level deeper, with a more melancholy take on the melody it could be argued that it outshines the original.
The second track Uku Onua,is a collaboration with Ukrainian artist Max Tolmachev. A more upbeat lively record that has clear breakbeat influences. It’s a fun track but that is as far as it stretches. The problem is the drums just sound a little bit flat and tinny which takes away a bit of muscle from the song. Baraso is on hands to remix this track, taking a much darker more minimalistic techno route. The drums have been mastered more effectively, and the sweeping sound effects add a different range of emotions to the sound, which compliments the melodies well.
The original tracks by Silat Beksi certainly aren’t bad and show a clear development of sound and style. The darker remixes work the melodies superbly and the overall sounds feel completely polished.
It is certainly worth checking out this EP, especially the remixes.
