Following the re-release of his 2003 classic 'peace of mind', Claro Intelecto comes through with possibly his darkest and industrious release to date.
The first track ‘Remember' lives up to its name as dreamy chords are whisked out by smooth synths, creating an overwhelming sense of nostalgia. However any nostalgic thoughts are swiftly kept in check by glitchy metallic stabs and stretched sweeping vocals. These separate elements are glued together by throbbing kicks and rolling sub-bass.
'White Sun' is a much sparser offering. Claro slowly develops an ever-fizzing drone as well as metallic percussion hits and sporadic wet vocals to form an exhilarating climax that conjures up imagery of a massive star - black hole transformation.
On the flip side, ‘A Nightmare Before Bedtime' begins with a wonderfully crafted pumping kick pattern that sounds like a beating heart injected with techno rhythms. Dark, percussive bass stabs subtly begin to dance with the kick, blending with the swinging woods and hats to form an impenetrable wall of groove.
To finish off the EP, Claro gives us by far the most hyped of the four tracks. ‘Blank CC’ features a gritty synth, firing off at pace to forge an uncompromising barrage of acidy sounds.
Aside from the quality of the production, one of the most impressive aspects of this EP is each tracks ability to portray a clear narrative through the use of sound. In ‘white sun’, the fizzing, alien timbres genuinely evoke thoughts of cosmic phenomenon. The kick drum in ‘A Nightmare Before Bedtime’ not only sounds like a beating heart, but symbolises its reaction to a bad dream through rhythm as well, starting in hurried fashion, then returning to regular pace as the musical decrescendo represents the end of the ordeal.
We highly recommend this release and if you liked it as much as us then be sure to purchase it here.
