Paris native Traumer has been quietly releasing some diverse and exquisitely produced Techno EPs on a variety of labels for the past 4 years.
His latest project Dedust finds it’s home on the Dusseldorf based Desolat label. Desolat puts out top quality forward-thinking Techno and House records, so is the perfect base for Traumer’s latest release. And this is undeniably his most cohesive EP to date.
‘Hoodlum’ the funky opener of the double 12”, is unquestionably Dedust’s highlight. Traumer’s excellent percussion work drives the infectious melody into a dance-floor destroyer. The more tech-house ‘Insola’ delves slightly deeper, displaying Traumer’s ear for grooves. ‘Shuttering’ and ‘Swish’ bring a more industrial sound, the kind of hard Techno you could imagine erupting out of the Berghain, whilst ‘Static Run’ serves as a power-house roller. The vocal hits in ‘Wasp’ drive the track along, being one of the more peak time dance floor ready tracks on the EP. ‘Chord X’with it’s building chord sequences brings more of the same, and that certainly isn’t a criticism, but the last track ‘Mobius’ really ends the record on a high. The spacey synth work allows the percussion to flow beautifully and returns some of the funk he displayed on the opener.
What is noticeable throughout the entire project is Traumer’s ability to build a groove. His contagious melodies are complimented by his devastating drum work and it demonstrates a sophisticated grasp of the music he is putting out. This EP is consistent in production and energy throughout, and shows how Traumer is growing as an artist. If Desolat are helping him put out tracks like ‘Hoodlum’, may their partnership long continue and we look forward to his future releases.
