Benny Rodrigues' lastest EP with a remix from Berlin's own RØDHÅD.

A double edged techno sword beginning with Benny Rodrigues’s original “The Choice Is Mine”. This track islargely lead by the ascension of a melodic motif containing a host of interesting pitch and voicing shifts. In particular 1.21 – 1.43 offers an incredibly interesting riff, straying away from the main melody which by this point is starting to become stagnant. However in doing this the entire track is revitalised just by removing it ever so slightly from what you’d expect to hear.

Benny’s rapid cycling of timbres keeps interest as the steady underlying rhythms keep the pulse and momentum healthy. At first glance the rhythm may seem to be a standard techno, however it is intertwined by a Latin hi-hat rhythm which off sets the entire track, allowing you to indulge in the movement.
Between the melody and rhythm lies a limbo section which doesn’t feel entirely melodic, nor does it feel completely rhythmic. Benny creates an ambience which compliments the rhythm and melody making the track feel full, and very satisfying.

This is followed by an interesting remix by RØDHÅD, which removes most of the melody and instead monotones it in the rhythm section quite low in the mix. He also removes most of the voicing changes and instead opts for a largely blended approach. This take on the track feels much more natural in progression, rather than Benny’s interrupting timbre changes. Overall the remix sounds fairly lacklustre in comparison to the original, but an interesting approach nonetheless.
